Bulk Email - Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is there a difference between bulk email marketing and SPAM emailing?
A: Absolutely! One of the major differences involves permission.
- SPAM-type Commercial Communication: is unsolicited marketing material that is sent via email to recipients who haven't given their permission to receive the information that's sent to them. Take a look through your own spam folder. Did you ask to receive these emails or that type of information? If not, then you have SPAM. In the past, your inbox would have been filled with these types of messages. Fortunately, mail providers and advertising regulations have imposed tough anti-SPAM laws to help prevent this from happening.
- Bulk Email Marketing: also sends promotional materials by email, but only to recipients who have agreed to receive that information. These recipients have opted in, or given their permission through subscription sign-ups, newsletters, surveys, etc. The best bulk email campaigns consist of messages that are SPAM compliant and include a link to unsubscribe. What this means is, the recipient has the choice to opt out or revoke their permission at any time. When done correctly, bulk email marketing is expedient, economical and one of the most effective ways to market products and services on the internet.
Q: Ok, so how do I get people to opt-in or how do I find addresses of people who may be interested in hearing from my company?
A: There are 2 ways to do this.
#1 - Build your own private list of subscribers. This is typically done with potential clients who contact you directly about your services or products. You could offer free downloads, special rates, future promotions or further information to encourage them to opt-in and receive your bulk email messages.
#2 - Buy a Bulk Email List. Many companies sell email lists, but not all lists are created equally. Make sure any lists you purchase are opt-in lists and provide more than just an address for you to use. Why? Because, you want your bulk emailing campaign to zero in on your target market. A good list provider should be able to supply a vast selection of categories and demographic filters for both consumer and business email addresses. If that's what you're looking for in a bulk email list, you've come to the right place; Email Point provides all of the above!
Q: How do I send out my bulk email campaign? Can I do it myself through my personal email or company address?
A: You can, but it's risky. Most mail providers or servers have daily sending limits. That means you can only send out a certain number of emails to a certain number of recipients. Sending out a large bulk email campaign in this manner can take up too much time. Furthermore, if you exceed your limit, your account could be blocked, blacklisted or shut down completely. To prevent this from happening, it's best to contact your provider or host company and inquire about their terms of service.
If you don't want to be bothered with any of that and just want to get your message out there, Email Point has our own Bulk Sending Service where you don't have to worry about any of those details.
